When Figma Weave outputs new screen layouts, it uses AI layout engines to calculate spatial positioning and nested Auto Layout frames. Occasionally, custom web fonts, missing line-height parameters, or complex component constraints cause text blocks to collide or overlap inside the generated container. This guide covers how to repair broken text layer positioning and restore normal auto-layout behavior in your Figma canvas.
Quick checks
- Check whether Figma Weave is down or experiencing live service disruptions that might cause incomplete frame rendering.
- Confirm that the primary canvas frame has Auto Layout enabled (Shift + A) rather than absolute positioning.
- Verify that custom project fonts are installed locally and fully activated in your Figma browser or desktop client before running prompt generations.
- If the generation engine freezes midway through layout creation, review our guide on Figma Weave not generating to reset the plugin worker.
- Reset Auto Layout resizing on affected containers
Select the parent frame surrounding the overlapping text elements. Open the right-hand inspection panel and inspect the Auto Layout direction (vertical or horizontal). Change the text layer dimensions from Fixed width/height to Hug contents or Fill container. This forces Figma to re-evaluate bounding boxes based on actual font metrics.
- Clear absolute positioning triggers
Sometimes Figma Weave mistakenly applies the Absolute Position toggle to child text layers inside auto-layout frames. Click the offending text node, navigate to the Frame controls in the right panel, and ensure the Absolute Position icon is disabled.
- Re-apply line height and font family rules
When prompt constraints default to fallback system fonts, letters may collide vertically. Select all text layers inside the generated frame, switch them to a standard web-safe font (such as Inter or Roboto), and set line height to Auto or a proportional percentage (e.g., 140%).
- Detach and rebuild corrupted frame trees
If nested frames continuously collapse text into single points, select the top-level generated frame, press `Cmd + Option + G` (Mac) or `Ctrl + Alt + G` (Windows) to unframe the elements, then re-apply Auto Layout from scratch.
Still stuck?
If text layers continue to stack on top of each other across multiple files, your canvas render cache may be corrupted. Try restarting Figma or re-opening the canvas file. If the Weave control widget disappears entirely during troubleshooting, consult our guide for Figma Weave missing in Figma.
