Figma Weave not generating expected design
When Weave returns something generic or wrong, the prompt is usually only half the problem. Here is the rest.

Diagnose the gap
Off-target output has three usual causes: an under-specified prompt, missing context in the file, or a constraint conflict with existing layers.
Give the model real context
- Select the frame you want it to work inside before prompting. An unscoped prompt generates in a vacuum.
- Name your layers meaningfully. Generic names such as Frame 42 provide no signal.
- Keep your text styles and colour styles published; unpublished local styles are frequently ignored.
Write prompts that constrain
Weak prompt: "make a dashboard".
Stronger prompt: "8-column dashboard, 1440px, cards with 12px radius, use existing Text/Body and Surface/Card styles, no illustrations".
State the layout system, the spacing scale, the styles to reuse, and what to exclude. Exclusions matter as much as inclusions.
Iterate in small steps
Regenerating the whole frame after every note wastes credits and loses good work. Accept the structure first, then refine one section per prompt.
