When Figma Weave populates generated UI frames with placeholder photos or custom graphics, images can sometimes appear stretched, squished, or distorted. This distortion usually occurs when the backend engine sets layer image properties to stretch or fill without maintaining native aspect ratios.

Quick checks

• Click on the distorted image layer and check the Fill section in Figma's right-hand sidebar.
• Check if generation stalled while retrieving asset placeholders using /fix/figma-weave-not-generating.
• Verify if the issue happens with all generated images or only inside specific frame shapes.

1. Change fill scaling mode to Cover or Crop: Select the stretched image layer, click the Fill color thumbnail in the right panel, and change the scaling dropdown from `Fill` or `Stretch` to `Cover` or `Crop`. This instantly restores original image proportions.
2. Specify image aspect ratios in your AI prompt: Add aspect ratio constraints directly to your prompt text before generating. Use directives like "maintain 16:9 aspect ratio for hero image" or "use square avatar thumbnails" to guide asset scaling.
3. Detach instance or clear image layer overrides: If the image layer was generated inside a master component, nested instance bounds may distort the fill. Right-click the component and choose Detach instance to reset image frame dimensions independently.
4. Re-run generation for individual image containers: Select only the affected frame or image container rather than the entire canvas screen, then re-trigger Weave to fetch a properly proportioned replacement graphic.
5. Reload the Figma Weave extension interface: If image fill settings remain completely uneditable or frozen, refer to /fix/figma-weave-missing-in-figma to restart the generation panel.
